The 4th House ..
I Am My Family
The cusp of the 4th House is called the IC or Imum Coeli, Latin for "at the lowest
point in the heavens." Sometimes referred to as the "nadir," this house points to
the most subjective part of our lives. This is the portion of the horoscope that deals
with our psychological foundations. It is the natural house of the sign Cancer and
its ruler, the Moon. As such, the 4th describes a great deal about our instinctive
patterns of behavior. It tells us much about what we have inherited from our
family, race, tribe, and nation, as behavioral patterns passed down from generation
to generation. In a very distinct sense, we can say that the 4th House tells us much
about our roots. The 4th House is traditionally associated with our mother and our
domestic situation in general. In indicates much about the emotional climate
surrounding our birth, our mother's life at the time, and the first seven years of life.
This house, considered along with the 1st and 3rd Houses, tells a great deal about
the life circumstances that condition a person's primary and instinctive nature. The
4th House describes our deepest emotional and psychological connection
to our family.
