| The 7th House .. I Am Myself with You |
| The 6th was the last of the "personal houses". Its function was to bring a more precise and refined definition to one's sense of self. In effect, the individuality (First House) has been given its resources (Second House), an ability to communicate (Third House), a family and psychological foundation (Fourth House), creative talents (Fifth House), and finally a sense of service, an urge for health and well-being, and a good haircut (Sixth House). The individual is now ready to go out into society and roam the pathways of the "social or collective houses" in the southern hemisphere of the horoscope. But first, he or she must find a mate .. a partner, a companion . . to share the adventure. This is the function of the 7th House. If the 1st House (especially the ascendant) speaks primarily about "you", then the 7th House (especially the descendant) reveals the "not you". It is through the sign on the 7th House cusp that determines what quality in others attracts you the most. This is, more often than not, a quality in yourself .. you either do not see, and/or you need to incorporate into your own personality and character to give you a sense of your own wholeness. The 7th House is thus the domicile of relationships, specifically of relationships of a very special kind. The 1st House speaks about the relationship I have with myself, and with myself relative to the world in general. The 5th House tells me about my relationships with lovers, but the 7th is much more a house of partnership. It is traditionally the house of marriage, or life partners. There are two other important facets to the 7th House .. business partnerships and competitors. Venus is the natural ruler of this house, and of its sign Libra. We often have the most serious battles and conflicts with the people who matter most to us.
